“A Taste of Fall: Jonathan Benno's Lincoln Opening in September”
Summer is a pretty slow time for restaurant news in New York. So when word got out recently that Lincoln Center’s much-hyped about restaurant was making progress, the foodie press was all over it. The latest? The restaurant has a name. It’ll be called Lincoln and is expected to open in September. Chef Jonathan Benno (most recently the chef de cuisine at Per Se) will be leading the kitchen of this Italian fine-ding restaurant, which is being run by the Patina Restaurant Group.
We don’t know much about the menu yet, except that it’s supposed to give us a flavor of Italian cuisine as a whole rather than focusing on any one region. And if Benno's the chef, you know it will be inspired.
The design side is expected to be stellar as well. The firm Diller Scofidio + Renfro have plans for a glass-enclosed pavilion. The restaurant will overlook the reflecting pool, the Henry Moore sculpture, a grove of trees on one side and Avery Fisher Hall. The multi-level space will seat 115 in the restaurant 45 in the lounge, 7 in the bar, 16 for private dining and 20 outdoor seats — all with a “comfortable and refined” vibe. More impressive is a 10,000-square-foot sloping grass roof that will be open to the public. Reservations are expected to be open starting August 9. Lincoln will be open seven days a week for lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., dinner 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. and brunch on the weekends 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
We’ll keep you posted on the latest news when it comes in.
Lincoln is located at 142 W. 65th St. (accessible from 65th Street and Lincoln Center Plaza), 212-359-6500.
