“Bacon Night kicks off Bacon and Summer Beer Week at Jimmy's No. 43”

I grew up without bacon. I know, it’s a very sad to hear, but that’s how things went down. It really wasn’t so bad actually because I didn’t know any better. My Mom is kosher and she raised us in a kosher home where we ate wonderfully fluffy cheese omelets for breakfast, sans smoky, salty intoxicating slices of just fried bacon. Now that I am a more modern secular Jew—I don’t eat bread on Passover, I fast on Yom Kippur, but my fridge is packed with bacon—I feel the marked deprivation of my childhood even more acutely. That’s what therapy is for, people. In any case, for those of you out there who love bacon as much as I do and who may have had some bacon deprivation as a child, I recommend you mark your calendars for Bacon Week at Jimmy’s 43.

The week gets kicked off on Monday May 12th with a bacon tasting in the back room hosted by the charming man of meat (author Meat Me in Manhattan and more recently, The Hamburger), Josh Ozersky (aka Mr. Cutlets) the editor of New York Magazine's Grub Street.

Following Josh’s evening bacon salon, Jimmy’s 43 will keep the pork belly festivities going all week long featured special bacons like Benton's from Tennessee, Flying Pigs Farm and Violet Hill Farms from New York state, Summerfield Farms and several others. Bacon week will also kick off Summer Beer week with brews like Schlenkerla Helles Lager, Reissdorf Kolsch, Troubadour Blond, Allagash (Maine) White, Hitachino White Ale (Japan), and many more.

Jimmy’s 43 is located at 43 East 7th Street, 212-982-3006.
