“5 Napkin Burger to open Wednesday”

If you’ve dined at Nice Matin, chef Andy D’Amico’s sunny Niçoise brasserie on the Upper West Side, then you may know about the 5 Napkin Burger. It’s been on his menu there since day one, and it’s garnered quite a following, and not for nothin’. It’s a juicy 10-ounce pup topped with Comte cheese and caramelized onions, slicked with rosemary aioli on a soft white roll ($14.95). It’s now the namesake of this new white tiled, butcher shop chic American bar and grill from Andy and his front of the house partner Robert Guarino (Marseille, Nizza).

You’ll find six other burgers rounding out the between-the-buns menu, including the Rarebit-Bacon Burger—topped with white cheddar sauce and grilled bacon ($12.95), the Ahi Tuna Burger—with ginger, scallions & soy, wasabi mayo, and tempura fried onions, on a sesame egg roll ($14.95), and the Lamb Kofta Burger—with chopped tomato & onion salad and green tahini sauce ($13.95).

If burgers aren’t your thing (why not?), there are five oversized salads including one topped with chipotle pork, another that’s basically an excuse to eat a burger (without the bun), and a third in the vein of a Chinese chicken salad. Appetizers are big fun and made for sharing (or at least attempting to do so): Warm Artichoke & Mozzarella Dip (10.75), Hand Cut Pork Chili with crispy tortillas, crème fraiche, white cheddar & cilantro (9.50), Raclette Fondue with Potatoes & Mushrooms (9.50), and Crab Louis with Ritz Crackers & Cukes (12.95).

To wash down your burgers and such, there are thick shakes in five flavors: Very Vanilla, Chocolate Malted, Caramel Latte, Pina Colada, and Strawberry Yogurt, along with a 100-bottle wine list with selections from Long Island, California as well as Bordeaux and South America, as well as some nifty cocktails from Mixologist Avi Turgeman (the beer sommelier from Café Alsace) like the 5 Napkin Sling: Tanqueray gin, Benedictine, Cherry Herring, Grenadine and citrus). For dessert (if you can handle it) there are Root Beer Floats, an Espresso Brownie Sundae, a New York Style Cheesecake, a 7-Layer Blackout Cake and a Strawberry-Rhubarb Pie for dessert.

5 Napkin Burger opens on Wednesday, June 18th, and is located at 630 9th Avenue at 45th Street, 212-757-2277.
