“Don't miss the Fool's Pig Roast at Rose Water on Thursday August 21st”
Rose Water's Third Annual Fool Pig Roast is Thursday, August 21 at 7pm. Only a few tix remain at $68, all inclusive. The menu includes Garlic-Roasted Peanuts, Heirloom Tomato Salad and Whole Heritage Breed Spit Roast Pig served with cold beer and pink (er, rose) wine.
The name Fool Pig Roast stems from a visit from the Health Department three weeks after their first endeavor at cooking outside on the sidewalk on Union St. One of their Park Slope "neighbors" had called and complained that cooking a, "full animal," outside on the sidewalk was, "smoky, disgusting and inappropriate."
The inspector couldn't find any evidence of outdoor cookery at the time of his visit, so wrote up a report saying as much, noting that there was no "fool pig" anywhere to be seen. An annual event was thus born. By the way, they don't cook it on the sidewalk anymore. The "inappropriate" outdoor cooking location is a secret and moves every year.
Rosewater is located at 787 Union Street, (718) 783-3800.
