“There's a New Truck in Town: The Kings Country Real Wood Pit Barbecue Truck!”

People, get ready to pig out. As of 12 noon today (October 21st), Chris McGee, the pitmaster of this summer’s BBQ Island on Coney Island is opening the doors to his new pit stop—King’s Country Real Wood Pit Barbecue at 168 Quincy, just off Bedford Avenue in Brooklyn.

Chris is a veteran of Blue Smoke and Jean-Georges and is a native of Kansas City so his menu includes his saucy Kansas-City style ribs (basted in his secret Kings Country bbq sauce, $10 for ½ rack, $18 for a whole), apple-brined chicken wings ($6), and his famous chicken “ribs”—smoked drumsticks flash fried and tossed in sauce ($7/$12).

He’s also doing a line of sandwiches including one layered with smoky, moist Texas-style beef brisket ($7), another stuffed with hand-pulled smoked pork butt ($6), and a third made from smoked, rubbed and pulled chicken ($6). Sides of beans, fries, slaw and a veggie of the day ($2-$4) are also on the menu. In the coming weeks he’ll be expanding the menu a bit with a regular daily special, a soup and something sweet (in the works are the fried apple pie and molten chocolate cupcake).

If you can’t make it over to the truck, delivery starting tomorrow evening at 5pm. For now, delivery will only be in the evenings from 5-close. The truck will operate 12noon-10pm daily, closed on Mondays, on a take-out basis.

Chris is also working on setting up a little al fresco café in the neighboring lot with tables and heat lamps under a corrugated metal roof.

For now, enjoy the beautiful autumn days and the arrival of the Kings Country Barbecue Truck!!!

Good to see Chris and the truck alive and well. But I better see that truck back at beer island (Coney Island) next summer, or Diana and I are taking back our Bahamas T-shirts! Best of luck - Bruce
