“News Bites: Tasting Menu at Forge, 11 after 11 at BarBao, Brunch at Motorino”

Chef Marc Forgione of Forge (134 Reade Street, near Hudson Street, (212) 941-9401) has started serving a five-course tasting menu ($68 a person, add $40 for wine, too). The menu is seasonal and changes regularly but if you head over soon you’ll feast on dishes like wild kampachi tartare, avocado, sechuan buttons, American caviar and saratoga chips, marinated diver sea scallops with kabocha squash risotto, and stuffed venison loin with maple whipped sweet potatoes and black trumpet mushrooms. For dessert, a chocolate pecan tart, whisky ice cream, and salted caramel.

BarBao (100 W 82nd St, 212.501.0776) has just introduced a menu called $11 after 11, that (as its name suggests) is stocked with a dozen items for $11 (or less) served after 11 p.m. On the menu you’ll find lots of shareable plates and noodles including summer rolls with your choice of filling (Berkshire pork, duck confit, short rib, $8),  spicy beef salad with pomelo, pineapple, chilies, rau ram herbs ($11), short ribs on lemongrass skewers with hoisin peanut sauce ($11), and vermicelli noodles topped with cucumber salad, herbs, peanut, cham sauce and your choice of hanger steak, Berkshire belly,  shrimp or vegetables.

Motorino (319 Graham Avenue, between Devoe and Graham, 718.599.8899) is now serving brunch (all dishes $10 with coffee or juice) on Saturdays and Sundays from 11:00am – 2:00pm. Chef Mathieu Palombino is turning pizza into the breakfast food of champions with pies topped with creamy fior di latte, fluffy farm eggs, smoky pancetta, and handfuls of basil and parmiggiano. He’s also turning out baked eggs with goat cheese, homemade tomato sauce and oregano and “Panetti” – sandwiches made from Motorino’s pizza dough stuffed with the likes of mortadella, taleggio, radicchio and aceto. Yum.
