“News Bites: Graydon Hosts Friends and Family at Monkey Bar, New Chef at Valbella”

Minetta Tavern may have some competition for A-List bold faced names in the next few weeks. Monkey Bar, VF editor Graydon Carter's second foray into the restaurant world, which he owns with hotelier Jeff Klein and Londoner Jeremy King and investors Ronald Perelman, Bryan Lourd, Jerry Weintraub and Jean Pigozzi, hosted Friends and Family dinners last week.

A Strong Buzz tipster who was in attendance at Friends & Family last week writes:

"The menu reads retro--Waldorf Salad, Shrimp Cocktail, Onion Soup, Oysters Rockefeller, Meatloaf, Lobster Newburgh & Red Velvet Cake. Chef is from London."

He also writes that the folks at Valbella in the Meatpacking have hired a new chef who worked with Scott Bryan and Eric Ripert. His take: "The food was outstanding (Italian with a French hand)."

The new chef is Maurice Hurley.
