“Want to be a Food Writer? Read This!”

Culintro, a new culinary trade organization that unites professional in the restaurant industry, has partnered with Food&Beverage Magazine to give aspiring food writers the opportunity to dive into the world of food writing, no matter the level of expertise.

Four times a year, Culintro will accept 100-150 word pitches from submitting Culintro members. Culintro and Food&Beverage Magazine’s Editor-in-Chief, Francine Cohen, will review the pitches and call back the winning contestant to write an article (400-550 words in length).

The winning article will be featured on the Culintro website for one month. And, the winner will be published in the next monthly issue of Food&Beverage Magazine, targeting over 40,000 industry subscribers. The Winner will also receive the opportunity to embark on an internship at Food&Beverage Magazine, where they will experience the inner workings of a magazine and proudly display their byline and resulting clips.

Guidelines:
  • Culintro requests that pitches be submitted on the FIRST day of each month. (Beginning with May 2009).
  • Culintro will contact the winning contestant to write an article (400-550 words in length) by the 10th day of the month.
  • The winner will have 2 weeks to complete their article submission. All articles must be received NO LATER THAN the 22nd of each month.
  • Culintro will include a blurb and link to the winning article in the ‘Culintro à la Carte’ E-Newsletter to all of its members.
  • The Winning Article will be published in Food&Beverage Magazine in an upcoming month and will also run on the magazine’s website, www.fb101.com
  • The winner will arrange all internship details including starting date with F&B Magazine (first internship may begin as early as May 1st).
  • Internship requires a minimum of 8 hours per week (Food&Beverage Magazine is flexible with days and hours).
  • Winner will intern directly under Francine Cohen, Editor-in-Chief, and work in every aspect of the magazine’s production including, but not limited to: editorial research and contributions, strategic planning, magazine production and circulation, and advertising/marketing.
